HD Speed Durability Test

So on Saturday, the 16th, I had three Camry`s over to apply Speed on all of them. They are all daily drivers, and I thought this would be a good test for durability. It looks like it will be raining here for the next two or three days so that`s actually a good thing for this test. Basically I want to see how long it takes for the water to no longer bead, and the shine to start to fade, hopefully it`s a really long time.

Gray Camry - HD Speed with H20 tangerine pad 5.5", GG6 on speed 5, one pass

Blue Camry - HD Speed with H20 cyan pad 5.5", GG6 on speed 5, two or more passes, topped with DG Aquawax

Red Camry - HD Speed with H20 tangerine 4" pad, PC on speed 6, one pass, topped with Megs 21 or 26, whichever the wax is, can`t remember

All three cars reported some minor swirl removal, with the blue car a little more as it was several passes, not just one or two.

Gray Camry was done by a guy who has been detailing for a hobby for a few months. Blue Camry was applied by myself. Red Camry was applied by a complete novice.

I will post more pictures and update on durability as I get them.

I can`t wait to see/hear the updates! After over two weeks, SPEED on the ambulance is holding up very well. Good beading but the slickness is fading a bit. No worries though.

I have some interesting results from Speed applied by machine and by hand. Maybe it will be soap dependent, but let us know how the cars are maintained please.

I probably will not let any of the cars be washed for two weeks. I want to see what it can really do, day to day. Even when washed, it will be ONR, so that won`t remove any of it and actually add a little gloss back into it.

The less you wash the longer the protection lasts. I learned this years ago from Sal Zaino. In case you didn`t know. :noidea:

Yes, that`s the whole idea. I want to see how the average daily driver will be with Speed on it. Two weeks with just driving around, no washes. But I think ONR is gentle enough not to remove any of it anyway.

You would think so, haha. I have found I can wash a bare panel with ONR and it will leave enough behind to leave gloss and beading, but there is nothing on it. It might be worth it to wash it, or at least spray it with water to see what type of beading you`re getting [not saying beading = protection].

Not to be a jerk and point out the obvious. But you can only test the durability of speed on the Grey car as it is the only one you didn`t top with something else. I was hoping to see you were using 3 different pads or application methods and not topping any of them. Hopefully we can learn something from this test.

Yes, but I purposely did it staggered like that. DG Aquawax doesn`t last too long, neither does Megs wax, but I want to see when topped how does it act, and when left alone. Basically how well do products last when applied over it, and when nothing is applied over it. The three cars here should provide those results sufficiently.

Looking fwd to your findings.

I polished the Lexan bed cover of my truck with speed last week on Friday. Speed cut out the swirls with ease as it is soft. Speed also removed the oxidation. I started with a white LC flat pad, but that was quickly getting clogged up. I changed to a Megs MF finishing pad and that was easier to keep clean with compressed air. Will report back on how the beading and slickness hold up.

That works for me.... I will be watching this as well along with everyone else.

Rained pretty hard yesterday, and looks like more today. None of the cars have lost any gloss/shine, and still feel slick. Water beaded up nicely, although it didn`t exactly just run off of the car, I don`t see any water spots to mention, so that`s a big plus for me. I`m also looking at how east it will be to wash the dirt off, so I will report back if it rains today.

So after a week of daily driving, and a couple days of thunderstorms, I decided to hose off the blue Camry and see how the beading/sheeting was. On a side note, the gloss and shine has gone away a little bit, but not too much, it still pops in the sun, but not as much at night where as before it glowed at night also.

I didn`t wash the car, just hosed it off, there was a little beading, but as you can see, it sheets more than beads, which is a good thing I think.

So far, so good. The slick feel is going away, as is the not in the sun glow it had at first, but the beading is there and the water sheets right off (and quickly too), so overall I`d say it`s doing well. Keep in mind that this car was only topped with DG AW.
