I`d suggest not going more aggressive than 2500 UNIGRIT paper. Follow up with a compound and wool pad with a rotary.
Although cheezy as can be, the meg video has a good went sanding section, it is the paint correction video, I just saw it some where for 10bucks, give me a second and I will find it and PM you

One thing I recommend when wet sanding is the Four Star AEG. It is so much better than using water in my opinion.
