Any tips on claying my wheels

I`m not looking forward to this at ALL......as I know how much grunt work is needed to work these spokes ..



I`ve got some rail/rotor dust that needs to be clayed off.

Just short of the manual labor aspect of things....any suggestions on making my life easier. I`m thinking I may just jack it up and remove the wheels for easier use of working the wheel.

Jacking it up and taking the wheel off make it SO much easier if you have the time. Otherwise its just slow and steady and use lots of lube. Lol that sounded dirty.

Nice wheels (I had very similar HREs on my Mallett C5)!



Be careful not to let the socket nick them. I use plastic-coated sockets for my wheels, a little extra margin for error.

I`ll grab some pics but I don`t think clay is going to work out...



I decided to do the easy stuff 1st.

Pre Wash wheels 2X, Car Wash and then full clay on the car. I thought the left side panels would be pretty nasty, but the clay proved otherwise.



By the time I was done, it started to rain.

However, a quick visual inspection has got me thinking.



Basically, the caliper froze on me to the point where the anti-rattle clip was gouging the rotor. Suffice to say, alot of *rotor dust* was embedded on the problamatic wheel. I dunno if my wheel is just shot at this point, but even after 2 thorough washings, there is still alot of grit embedded on it. I have not taken the clay to it, but regardless, it`s still not going to be FUN AT ALL, since the same rusty embedded dust is on the star drive bolts that hold the wheel halves to the center and there is no way I can attack that with clay.



Tomorrow, I`m going to work on the center and the spokes and see how well that goes but I don`t think I have a aggressive enough clay for the job.
