I just picked up my new Porsche two weeks ago. I told the dealer not to do anything to the exterior paint at all. When I got there I removed the plastic film and drove it home where I cleaned it myself. A little bug/tar remover took off a couple of small lines from the adhesive film. I don`t have one swirl mark on it, other cars on showroom floors seem to have plenty.

I don`t think this is still an issue.

    mrgoochio,

I would also be very insistent with the dealer that this is what you want done (i.e.no prep) to the point to talking to the detail manager, your sales person, the owner - anyone who will listen. Be there when they unload it and put a sign on it. This may sound like and be overkill, but it is very, very easy for them to "forget" your instructions. Remember that once they touch it, they cannot go back and untouch it.

You`re off to a great start with a great ride - enjoy it.

While you are waiting on your supplies to arrive, you can purchase some clay magic and meguiar`s cleaner wax to hold you over and keep you busy until you get the good stuff. I might also practice with the flex on an older vehicle before using it on the new BMW. Congrats on the new car!

Thanks for the continuous insight guys. I have already submitted a request to my supplier and my order has been shipped within 24hrs of my e-mail. My products have shipped and the Flex will ship when it comes back in stock. I will take care of the detail myself as you all recommended. As for practicing with the Flex before I take it to the BMW, I have plenty of other cars available for testing which I have already planned on.

You know that we`re gonna hound you until you post pics of that new ride, right?

What did the dealer do to prep the interior besides unwrap the seats and take the tags off? I`m not familiar with interior vehicle prep

Im not sure how often you plan on waxing, but I would suggest something a tad more durable than souveran in the case you forget or are unable to wax your car.

They didn`t do anything to the interior either, I pulled off the plastic from the seats and floor matts.

BMW Jet Black, have fun with that. Possibly the most miserable to maintain paint there is. Don`t use much pressure when washing, and blot dry, even then expect to get some marring.

BTW, congrats on the new ride. I got to sit in one at my local dealer when they had an unveiling party for the 1 series, X6, and M3. The 135i surprised me, for such a tiny car it was comfortable for me (6`2") and the looks are growing on me. These days I am not a fan in the direction BMW is going, but the 1 Series has a nice Euro look/feel to it, I like it a lot.

I`ll be waxing as often as I need to.. Perhaps once a month if it isn`t too excessive

Once a month isn`t really excessive at all. Essentially you`ll just be refreshing your wax, so long as your wax lasts that long.
