Plastic masking film?

Well 1st off Iï¿½€™m not a pro, Iï¿½€™m an amateur at detailing cars. So this morning I received a called, it turns out this kid took his car to get his wheels painted. The paint shop instead of masking the car they sprayed this plastic film all over to protect it from the paint. They told him it comes out with hot water. Has anyone experience this? He told me he spent 3 hours just trying to get the gunk out with a terrycloth which is the wrong answer(microfiber towels) I clayed a section with mothers clay bar and itï¿½€™s coming out. He said he clayed the car but is still looks like poop, Either he doesnï¿½€™t know how to clay or his products sucks. Is there anything else he could use?

Might try denatured alcohol. I can guarantee that the clay won`t work it`ll clog on the first pass over stuff like that. Though I have to admit it`s a lazy painter that sprays a mask instead of properly masking.

I`m assuming he actually *did* try the hot water and it didn`t work.

I`d be using AutoInt`s New Car Prep. I`d expect any sorta-similar solvent to work, so I`d have him find the local autobody/paint supply store and go get something like PrepSol.

But by the sound of this, he`s gonna need some kind of paint cleaner (even just Meg`s Deep Crystal #1 or Color-X), or more likely a real polish, to get things looking good again.

Not really a helpful suggestion, but I`d have the kid take the car back and have the shop fix the situation. I find it ridiculous that they sent him on his way with the film still on the car. That would be like driving your car home from the paint shop with masking tape and paper all over it.

That is a helpful suggestion, the best one yet.
