    Hi all,

Upon inspection after washing today, I noticed some pretty ugly swirls on a few panels of our Mazda6. It was in for body work not too long ago and I`m assuming the idiot kids who wash the cars post-painting at the shop are the culprits.

Now, my question is... how to remove them? I do own a PC, along with a pretty wide variety of products. However I`ve never really had to worry about removing defects before, mostly because I baby our cars to the point of obsessive.

I dont really know how aggressive to start on the swirls either, not really being experienced at knowing how bad is `bad`.

I do see a lot of talk about using the lake country orange pad, along with DACP. Is this the place to start, or too aggressive? I`d like to start with the bare minimum and work up from there if need be.

    Regards,
    Yard

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.

Start with a white polshing pad and DACP and if that doesn`t do the trick, use a cutting pad.

    Alright, polishing pad it is.

Is DACP too aggressive to start with? Would I be better off starting with SSR1 or is SSR1 way too mild to get any results? Also, in the case of DACP, I assume its only used where the swirls are, whereas SSR1 can be used across the entire surface as a polish.

Could I cut the difference and start with something like SSR2?

DACP can be used across the whole car to remove all scratches and swirls. I think you would be just fine starting out with DACP and then if you want to smooth the paint out more go with a finer polish (P21S Paintwork Cleanser or somethin like it)and then go from there.

Yeah, I`d start with the DACP. If the clear on the 6 is the same as that on our MPV it`ll be fairly hard, so don`t be surprised if you have to go to a cutting pad and then follow up with a milder combo.

Have you contacted the body shop and addressed this with them?

Many times, they will own up and put more experienced hands on the wheel, then have the work QC`d by a mgr. This is what they should be doing in the first place, though, IMO.

If you`re not comfortable letting them "redo" their screwed up work, have a professional detail shop do the work, and charge to the bodyshop per mgr OK. Then,....... Better Business Bureau?:nixweiss
