I don`t think by "laying in wait" he meant to arrest. I think he meant "laying in wait" to give a sound beating.

That`s such a nice truck too. I`m really sorry to hear that this happened. I hate people that do sh*t like that to other people`s property.

Hmm... can you set up your car to explode if something like this happened again? :hairpull
All kidding aside, it`s unfortunate what happened to your truck. At first, I would think a good ***-kicking would be in order but eventually I`d cool off and just let it go. There`s just some areas of town where you shouldn`t bring your pristine-conditioned vehicle.

I am somewhat familar with that area. IIRC, there is a body shop ( PPG certified) more or less a stone`s throw away. That might a place to check out to get any repaint estimated.
Treat it like it`s the only one in the world.

I just wish I caught `em doin` it,
ya know? Oh man, I`d give anything
to catch `em doin` it. It`a been

BTW, did you know Butch (the Bruce Willis character) is the one who keyed Vincent`s car?
Oh my!!!!! I would go insane if someone did that to my 1998 Z71. This person should get the chair, well not really, but you get the point. I hope everything works out for you and your precious vehicle.
That same thing happened to me, except i was in a fast food parking lot. let your insurance company know what happened and they will fix it, all you have to pay is your deductible. The best thing is, your rates WONT GO UP!!! Call them, thats what i did and vandalism cant make your rates go up. If they care enough, the insurance company will take it up with the police..... trust me
This is in New Brunswick NJ. ...... Nuff said, my daughters car was in New Brunswick and some threw a snapple bottle thru the rear window. Found the bottle on the floor in the front.

[B]UPDATE!!!!!!!
I went to work and spoke with the owner of the shop. He told me this guy is a nutcase with him on a constant basis. We run a towing and recovery shop out of this building and flatbeds and wreckers are in and out all through the night with wrecks, impounds, disableds.... you name it. This guy is fed up with the noise (shop is zoned for 24 hour business) He has some sort of H**D ON for the owner and takes it out on anybody who works there. Even our dispatcher who was walking the dog got an earful because the dog was sniffing around his garbage that was on the street. The dog was leashed and just sniffing while out for a walk. Anyhow, yesterday afternoon I parked my truck in front of his house making sure I was close enough to the curb and far enough away from his driveway entrance as to be legally parked. I left a note on my dash board in the biggest font I could print that read "SLEEP WITH ONE EYE OPEN! VENGENCE IS BLISS!"
Fast forward to 1 am this morning. I get off my shift and go to my truck. There is this scumbag on his computer in the front window. I hit the remote locks a couple of times to make the horn chirp. He gets up and looks at me leaning with my arms folded against the right side bed of my truck. Once he sees me, all the lights went out but The Dumb a$$ left a hall light on so I could see his silouette in the window. I just sat there for about 15 minutes and kept motioning him to come out. He kept moving to the side of the window and looking and then moving to the other side. I was seriously hoping that he would have called the cops but since he didnt, that proved to me that he was the one who did the damage and knew it would cause a big conflict if they were there. He finally went into another room andI sat there for another 5 minutes . He never returned.
Moral of the story.... There are a few things you never mess with in this world that will make a man do drastic things. 1... Never mess with a mans wife/girlfriend. 2 never mess with a mans children and 3... Never mess with a mans property to do damage. Im just that crazy right now to go after this SCUMBAG when he leasts expects it.
For now, Im touching up the scratch and living with it. The police report is filed, The insurance company is notified and I just have to come up with the deductable. As for now, A divorce has set me back in a big way and I just cant part with $500.00 to get it fixed.
Thanks for the update, too bad it`s kind of a stalemate, and you don`t have the bucks for the fix. I know you are wound up, but don`t do anything foolish...this guy isn`t worth you being hauled off for a disorderly persons offense or worse.
Given the type of business, I would expect the owner to be on a pretty much first-name-basis with the police; I`m kind of surprised that no one has had a "talking" with the neighbor before this.
Mike,
There has been talkings, the man has been asked to leave the shop property, told to leave the shop property and one of the mechanics has personally escorted him off the property. The owner is on a first name basis with the police and is calling for me today to see what he can do. He knows the responding cop as well. I truely know what they are going to say... IF YOU DIDNT SEE HIM DO IT, WE CANT DO A THING ABOUT IT. So I will do somethng about it. I will catch him. I will continue to park in front of his house and antagonize him until he does try it again. The difference being, He has been warned. I dont want to sound like a vigilante here but Im sure people on this board who lost their butt in a divorce and have to start from scratch hold dearly to them the nice things they do have. Those 3 things I have are my tools and truck. Not to mention my son and girlfriend but didnt want them in the same catagory...LOL Mess with any of them and I will retaliate.
I realize they can`t do anything about what happened to your truck, I`m really thinking about stopping the guy from doing anything in the future. If you are going to bait the guy, just be careful about it, so you don`t wind up on the wrong end. Perhaps one of those involved knows someone on the Detective Bureau, they might have some advice on your "sting".
The only thing the cop told me to do was set up a camera in my truck. That is very much doable. I have the camera and tripod. I can flip up the seat and set the camera up there. I can run it off a power inverter but the problem is what if for some chance he does see it and damages the side that the camera isnt set up on.
