Just picked up a 92 Miata, in classic red.

    http://www.zoomzoomzen.com

She has badly oxidized paint and needs some TLC.

I have a PC buffer, but what products should I use? Peferably something I can get at a local store, as I`d like to start work tomorrow.

    TIA!

join the AIO club and hail its magnificance!! Haha.

If you want something to kill the oxidation AIO is it. Have a lot of pads ready bc they are gonna fill up with dead paint quickly. As far as stuff from the store goes?

If nothing else, pick up some mothers clay and nxt tech wax. That will get you started in the right direction.

    AIO

    NXT

    Clay

and if the paint is swirled...

    PBSSR2.5 or lighter.

    Thanks guys!

I saw those other threads, but they indicate that they used a rotary buffer, which I don`t have. So I`m looking for the best solutions for a PC.

I really want to try klasse, but the car has been sitting in my garage for a week now and I don`t want to wait to order it! I guess I could get started on the interior instead.

If you are going to stick to what you can find in stores, you may want to look for ColorX, a chemical cleaner wax similar, but not quick as potent as AIO. It would be a good start followed by NXT or #26 from Megs.

You could also go pick up some Meg`s polishes from a local Pep Boys, NAPA, or bodyshop supply store. Get some #83 DACP for the really bad areas and some #80 for the rest, and then follow it with NXT like travisdecpn suggested.

Also, the second link I provided was done via rotary, but the same can be accomplished with a PC. The products he used can be purchased locally too (combination of 3M and Meguiar`s). The third link was all done by PC, but he used Poorboy`s SSR polish, which I don`t think you will find locally.

My suggestion for local purchase is either the Meg`s polishes I already mentioned, or 3M Perfect It Rubbing Compound and Machine Glaze.

Be sure to take more detailed pics of before and after -- and enter this into the extreme detail contest. I`m looking forward to seeing the transformation.

Let`s see I saw your pic`s and It looks like your in VA there are quite a few Autopian`s in VA so you might want to hook up with then and maybe try to trade/buy some AIO from them. Othere then that I know poorboy had a rep in Maryland so that might be an option also.
