In the coming month or so, i`m gonna work over my black s10, full scratch touch up, wet sand and buff. I thought about taping off half of the tail gate (b/c it`s hammered) and restoring the other half, then putting vinyl lettering on either side of the split to the air of "before and after"

Do you think drivers will get it ?

I was going to do something similar to my old truck but not before and after. I was going to put my logo on the good side and the other side just put "The other guys".

that`s clever! I just fear that people might not see it in the right light and be like "ER WUT?"

Well, think of it this way: is it negative if others don`t "get it" ? I don`t think so. If anything, it would make them call you out of sheer curiosity as to what you`re trying to show, which could lead you into a sales call.

Noting that I`m an old stick-in-the-mud, I voted "no". Ixnay on the gimmicks IMO.

Just too weird and you`d be driving around in it all the time. It`d be like a tailor wearing a coat that fits right on one side but not the other.

And no, I don`t think the average person would get it, especially not just after a passing glance in traffic (some car-guy seeing it parked in a lot might be a completely different matter, and yeah, that could generate some business).

It is a clever idea, but I would not do it. Once you finish with detail on your truck, get some nice vinyl graphics with your logo, website, etc. Everywhere you drive, your services will advertised; building your brand. Also ask yourself: are you interested in targeting people who need that type of heavy correction, or would you like to target the owner`s of nice cars who want to have their cars properly maintained on a regular basis.

Brad has a good point, a nicely detailed truck with vinyl lettering and graphics would attract much more attention. I still vote "yes" on your half-and-half idea, because it`s not a bad idea, but I`d have to rank vinyl-ing up your truck higher on the voting scale.

some marketing is better than NO marketing!

Heh heh, IMO that`s a good idea, and better than driving around in a half-and-half example. Just be sure your "bad half" is bad enough that average people can tell it needs fixed...you know how "normal people" are about this stuff

To be honest I have a partial vinyl wrap on my van thats 3` x 8` on each side of my van, and the whole backside of my van and it doesnt generate that "many" phone calls... Something like that would be more beneficial to show a customer what you prevent and what you can do to remove what the "other guys" do and can`t do.... As far as generating new customers? It`s just not going to do it!
