Although I have been detailing my own personal cars and friends for years, I just recently started reading these Autopia forums and I have info overload!

Well, i do know that I am only going to detail my own personal cars- which are in great shape so the PC will be good for me for now.

I want to buy some neww LC CCS pads but im confuesed if i should buy 3.5, 5.5 or 6.5 inch pads. i know that the smaller pads give the PC more power but can i detail a whole car with 3.5 or 5.5 inch pads?

    I have 3 cars-

    1. garage queen GM single stage black in great shape- no major correction needed- just a light polish

    2. 2007 white Chevy. Does this have aceramic clear coat? the car is mint and only needs a paint cleaner and light polish, sealant, wax.

    3. 1983 black VW- single stage paint. This car is the worst of all 3. Paint is not too bad but it does need some mild correction due to no garage and NY winters.

Now I already have old foam LC pads- orange and red. I also have the Menzerna kit that came with 2 pads- orange and white.

    What`s everyone`s advice?

    thanks

I have been using 5.5" pads with good results. BUT after reading a lot about 4" pads I will be ordering those. From what I have read they help break down the polish faster and allow for better correction.

its always good to have a selection of pads from large to small, it may cost a little but its always worth having the right pad for the job,

sounds like you may want a white pad with menz fp 2 and glaze for the GM garauge queen, and the white chevy I would go with the same set up and step it up if you need to. As for the other orange may be a bit much, need pictures to be able to tell for sure, SO far my fav pad is the green pad it seems to do the best job all around, you pay want to try that with some PO106FF for the vw or even the orange pad with po83 depending on how it looks.

With a PC, the car will be done faster with 4" pads than it would be with either 5.5" or 6.5" pads. You will need more of them, though. You can go through them pretty quick throughout a detail.

I am going to post pics soon. Anybody have a link on how to post pics?

For a normal average size car, how many 4 inch pads do u think i need?

Can I use LC CSS 4 inch pads that are for Spot Buffs to do the whole car?

    thanks

I can do my whole car with 3 or 4 4" pads, but I`d buy some extras just in case. I prefer the flat pads, I didn`t have much luck with the CCS pads. They wanted to jump around a lot more than the flat ones. Autogeek has a good sale on the flat 4" orange, but I can`t find white pads there anymore.

I compound with 5.5 or 4", but I like the 7.5 mushrooms for polishing and applying AIOs.
