Dot density
- This is a dot density map. I really enjoy making dot density maps because they allow us to do two things at once. Visualize both the distribution and density of populations or events across a region. Before you can make a dot density map you need three things; shapefiles for the regions you are interested in visualizing. Counts of the number of events or individuals in each of those regions. And finally, you'll need an algorithm for randomly placing points in each of these regions. So what's the benefit of creating a dot density map over normal Choropleth? This is a faceted choropleth showing the age distribution of individuals living in Texas. It's a really great looking map, but it doesn't tell us anything about how populated these counties are relative to one another. With Choropleth, we can only see population proportions.
