Take screenshots
- [Narrator] A screenshot is exactly what it sounds like. It's an image capturing whatever is on your screen at the moment, so you can share it with others or keep it in case you need to refer back to it. In addition to just taking screenshots, you can also immediately mark up the screenshot in case you need to crop it or highlight areas of it before sending it to someone or using it in a document. To take a screenshot on devices with a home button, press the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously. On the iPhone 10 and later, press the side button and the volume up button simultaneously. Notice we get a little thumbnail of the screenshot that appears on screen for about five seconds and then it disappears. If you don't want to do anything with the screenshot at the moment, you can just ignore that thumbnail and let it disappear and the screenshot will be saved to the Photos app. But if you do want to mark up the screenshot, and I'll just take another screenshot here, just tap that thumbnail and that puts us into the instant Markup mode. So we have a border on the image that we can adjust if we want to crop the image to only keep a portion of it or to hide something that we don't want to have seen in the shot. So maybe I'll just drag down from the top and crop out the time and all those little icons at the top and just leave it like that. Here at the top of the screen, we have a button that looks like a little pen tip. And if I select that, that opens up our Markup tools. So we have a pen, a highlighter, a pencil, an eraser and so on. So for example, maybe I want to select the highlighter, and I'll come in here and tap the color button, and I can select a different color and maybe change its opacity a bit. And then I can just drag my finger on the screen to highlight. Now if you mess up, there's an Undo button here right at the top of the screen. There's also a plus button down here in the lower right that gives you access to more tools for adding things like text boxes or a signature or for adding shapes like circles, squares, balloons, and arrows. When you're done here, you can share the image with your markups by tapping the Share button in the upper right hand corner. Here at the top of this sheet, you can tap Options to rename the screenshot if you want to give it a more descriptive name before sending it to someone else. I'll just tap Done in this case. And below that, you have options so you can airdrop the file to other nearby iOS devices or Macs. You can send the screenshot via messages or email or to other apps you have installed. Below that, you can tap Copy to copy the image so you can paste it into another app. And you can see there are several other options available. The Copy command is useful if you need to send a screenshot to someone but you don't need to keep a copy of it on your device. Now ultimately, I can also tap the x button here to close that share sheet. And if I tap Done, that gives you options where you can choose to Save to Photos, if you want to save it to the Photos app, or Save to Files to save it to the Files app. You can save it as a Quick Note to add it to your Note app. You can also Copy and Delete, which copies the screenshot to your clipboard so you can paste it into another app, but it also deletes the image so it's not saved anywhere else. This is useful if you don't want your screenshots taking up space on your device after you've sent them to others. And we also have the option here to delete the screenshot, which is useful for those times when you accidentally take a screenshot. And this way you don't have to open up the Photos app just to delete it. In this case, I'll just choose Save to Photos. And now if I go into the Photos app, I can see my marked up screenshot and even share it from here if I need to. Now, you can also take full screenshots of websites and mail messages in Safari in the Mail app. Let's use Safari as an example again. So sometimes you want to save or send a screenshot of an entire webpage or a mail message but you can't get that entire page to fit on your iPhone screen. Start by taking the screenshot as normal, and then tap the thumbnail that appears. Notice at the top we have the option to select either Screen or Full Page. When I select Full Page, we see the entire webpage on the side here with a rectangle showing the portion of the page you're currently viewing. Just slide that rectangle up and down, and you can view a different section of the page. And you can use the annotation tools at the bottom to mark up the image as before. To save the entire webpage, keep Full Page selected and tap Done. And again, here you can choose to Save to Photos, or if you want to create a PDF version of this file, just tap Save PDF to Files. You'll be taken into the Files app, and you can choose where to save it. I'll just tap Save to save it in the main directory. And now if I go to the Files app, there's my screenshot, and you can see now we have captured the entire page. And again, we can tap the Share button if we need to share this document with other people. So that's how to take screenshots and full webpage screenshots on your iOS device.
